What are the mandatory requirements for teacher license renewal in the State of Minnesota, and do the Professional Education Pal courses address these requirements?

There are 5 areas mandated by the State of Minnesota that teachers are required to evidence.  They are:

  • Key Warning Signs for Early-Onset Mental Illness in Children and Adolescents
  • Accommodation, Modification, and Adaptation of Curriculum, Materials, and Instruction
  • Positive Behavioral Intervention Strategies
  • Reading Preparation
  • Technology
Professional Education Pal provides the following courses that address the mandated requirements above:
  • Early Warning Signs of Children's Mental Health Disorders
  • Accommodations and Modifications
  • Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports
  • Reading and The Brain
  • The Integration of Technology and Education
The State of Minnesota has added an additional requirement in 2012.  Beginning July 1, 2012, all individuals who were employed as a teacher during any part of the five-year period immediately preceding the license renewal must include "evidence of work that demonstrates professional reflection and growth in best teaching practices.  The applicant must include a reflective statement of professional accomplishment and the applicant's own assessment of professional growth" in their license renewal materials.  For this new requirement, Professional Education Pal is currently developing an offering which will be available by July 1, 2012.  For more information, visit http://education.state.mn.us/MDE/EdExc/Licen/.
 

How much time will be necessary to complete each course?

Each course takes approximately 3 hours to complete, and is worth 3 Continuing Education Clock Hours.

Can I come back to the course at a later time to complete?

Yes. When you login again to Proedpal, you will be able to return to the course where you left off.

What documentation do I receive when I complete a course?

When you complete a course, a Certificate of Completion will be produced that you will be able to print.

How much does each course cost?

Will Professional Education Pal be offering other continuing education courses?

Yes. We are currently developing courses for Mindful Education, Social Emotional Learning, and Bullying: Establishing a Safe and Nurturing School Climate. Future courses will include Brain-based Learning Strategies, Differentiating Instruction, Drop-out Prevention, Student Engagement, Chemical Addiction, Self-harming Behaviors, and Eating Disorders.
